Oil Extraction Pump Recommendations

Hey Crew,

I'm looking for a oil extraction pump to suck the oil in the boat out of the dipstick tube. Unfortunatly the Skiers oil pan basically sits right on the hull. It is so close you can't even get the drain plug out of the pan. You can unscrew it almost all the way, but can't ever get it out so you have to remove the old oil via the dipstick tube. I bought one of the crappy $30 12V pumps and am totally sick of it. I wish it sucked, but it just plain blows(Sorry couldn't resist). Biggrin.gif

So....

Anyone use one of the vacuum fluid extractors for changing your oil. I'd like to buy a good one that works well ajnd holds at least as much oil as the largest motor in the family fleet (7 quarts in the 330xi). I've seen motorized ones as well as manual hand pump units. I've always changed oil from the underside of the car so don't have any experience with these things and hate the fact that I can't drain the oil in the boat the same way. Oh well.....Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Dont you have a hose attached to the oil pan that you can drop thru the hull and drain the oldfashioned way?

Thanks guys - I'll check out the Mityvac. Glad to see it was recommended as that was one of the ones I had picked out after reading recommendations and researching this afternoon. Thumbup.gif

I wish I had a drain hose, but it is just a standard drain plug like what a truck with a 350 would have. My uncles 99' Sunsetter LXI has the hose your talking about. I don't even have the room to add a 90 degree elbow and a hose myself or I would rock the engine forward off it's mounts and add a hose drain system. I would have to dent in the pan to make room for the elbow and then I probably would not get all the oil. Cry.gif

Another +1 for the Moeller, though it looks identical to the Mityvac above. It's also offered

in a larger capacity model (6.5 and 7.3 L, IIRC), which I would recommend. The only downside

to my 4 L model is that I can't get all of the oil sucked out without having to stop, somewhere

during the process, to decant oil into a separate jug so I can then suck the oil pan dry.
