Rub Rail Coloring

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a good way to get the rub rail back to the black finish. Dontknow.gif

I have a few areas that have a white rub marks that look like a hazy streaks. The rail is in good shape with some minor nicks so I don't want to replace it but the marks stand out like a sore thumb.

You can replace just the insert (middle part), only take a rubber mallet and 30 minutes. Cost from a Malibu dealer was like $100 when I did mine.

Thanks for the ideas! I'll give them a try. I have tried Back to Black and a rubber claener without any effect so this gives me a direction. Thumbup.gif

Tried the fingernail polish remover and it did a great job cleaning out the dirt and old wax but it didn't touch the color issue. It looks like the top layer of the rail is skinned off and the white is left from the abrasion.

Seeing that it is a '97, might just be time to fork out the 100 bucks for the replacement insert like 99response mentioned and save yourself the headache.

Your probably right. Sounds like a good spring 2010 project!

Can it be chalking from the dock cause I'm pretty sure the color (black) goes all the way thru. You are you talking about the rubber aren't you?

Yes, I have a few nicks in the outer case but it is the rubber that I am trying to get back to the original black.
