Big Mistake!! I went to Look at new BU....

I should have known better.. Showrooms and boatshows should be off limits to me. I had to kill some time today, Wife had a meeting, so I thought I would go to our local Malibu dealer and check stuff out. It was like candy at the checkout of a grocery store. I was in over my head and unsupervised as in ( Wife not with me) and there it was 2009 wakesetter with all the bling....and with every wakesetter comes an eager sale person with the confidence that you can really afford this boat, Ya right can we really afford these boats really?? any way I threw it out there... would you consider a trade ( only had my 04 VLX for a month ) and of course the standard reply was... you bet we do, So a little advise would be greatly appreciated. They are asking 64000.00 what do you all think would be a fair counter to make? What were some of the prices I could expect to pay for an 09 this time of year, and I do realize they need to make money to... Oh and it has pretty much every option!! 340 monsoon.

I think an option list would be a good thing to list before any advice should be given. JMO

What is every option? Do you have an actual list? What type of Wakesetter? VTX, VLX, 23, 24?

I just bought a demo boat (VLX) and paid about that after taxes and everything with a tandem trailer. My boat has pretty much all options other than a heater/shower. Spinner racks, option 3 radio, blah blah... Really depends on what they will give you in trade for your boat too. I wouldn't walk out until they give you atleast what you paid for it and a decent price on the actual boat.

I ended up getting more than I paid for my boat and what I thought was a decent price for the options for my boat. I'm sure some have paid less and others more in the end its all up to what you think is a fair price.

He is going to e-mail it me soon.. But pretty much fully loaded 21'6 VLX power wedge, heater shower, 4 tanks three amps, base 4 tower speakers, cabin speakers, New Illoution tower, Maliview or what ever they call that, showed me a demo.. I will need my kids help on that one. Malibu swivel boadracks, carpet saver, extreme trailer, Not sure what else comes on these boats.... Loan Officer.. and the keys to the bank I hope!!

The dealer had two VLX's on it and both look pretty optioned out. It seems like a good price already, offer them 60k otd if you want to go down a little in price.

Ok I have not test driven it yet,,So is there really 30'000.00 worth of preformance differance between my 04 compared to this 09.. My 04 compared to my 96 Ski Sanger was truly night and day!!! Please help me justify this awsome boat..... and yes it still has that new boat smell!!!

Not sure how your 04 is outfitted compared to the 09 but... ... I doubt it. To each his own though. Only you can make the final decision.

I agree for most people there is not going to be a 30k difference in performance. It is not about that, it is a lifestyle choice and how much you value that perspective of ownership. Most people with a Lexus could get by with a Toyota. For some 30k is a year's wages, for some it is a month's, so people will value that amount differently. You will not regret having a nice new boat, you might only regret paying for it, but maybe not. In the end you must decide what is right for you.

If you have only had your 04 for only a month you really haven't spent quality time behind that boat. I would probably just wait. Why? 1) your boat value has flattened and won't drop much 2) there will always be a left over out there 3) I would want a new titan tower(just a personal preference and titan is still in business) 4) The wakeboard wake behind an 04 VLX is sooo good.

I say keep your boat, and 30K, over the winter and revisit in the spring.

End of the season should allow you the best price bargaining - at the same time you'll get less for your trade for the same reason though. Ask if some services can be thrown in with the deal too - scheduled maintenance checks, storage, etc?

Great advice all over the board... I like the one suggestion to really use my 04 first, The new bu are sooo cool though. And it's hard to get over all the Bling and gagets, So stay tuned the boat show is only months away...................
