That board looks like my first surfboard. 5'4" custom-made Kanoa. Of course, I was 9 and probably 80-90 lbs.

That wake would sink my Sporty with one pass. Shocking.gif

Dude that is awesome. That wave is unreal. I agree with NorCal (I would become a victim to your wake) So how many boats has Blue Thunder sunk with that roller?!?!

I'll bet the fisherman love you guys. ROFL.gif

that wave is from a 247. there are no visible fat sacs in the play pen. there are no fat sacs in the bow. there is a 400 lb sac strapped to the plat form. the speed of the boat is 14 mph. there were five people in the boat. we are as polite as we can possibly be and really strive to promote the sport instead of pissing people off. though you dont always make everyone happy.

That's a great way to be. We do the same thing. When we surf or board we try to be as polite as possible to those around us, but like you said - not everyone is pleased.

That is 1 Titanic size wake. Not to be a downer here and take away from the thread intent, but from a safety standpoint, why no vest?

No realistic reason not to have a vest on. Just my opinion but I know lots of others will agree. Cool wake and looks like fun playing with it. Why not use a vest? Can't imagine.

Great pic but I agree about vests and safety.

I always see comments like ^^^ on here. I am not an advocate of not wearing a vest, but as long as it's legal where they are riding who cares? I always wear mine but I often ride with people who don't and it doesn't bother me one bit.

I grew up surfing in So Cal and we didn't wear vests. With that big of a wave and riding that far back from the boat...

Most boating reg's that require PFD's talk about "being towed" and he is clearly not being towed. No.gif

The loved one left behind when something happens and the surfer dude ends up spending extended time at 100'.

Sort of might agree, but what about that stupid idiot right behind on a jet ski who is enjoying that same wave but clearly not paying attention to the downed surfer?

Not a judgement on anyone, just a personal opinion. ;)

Wes has surfed in the ocean his entire life. He has never worn a vest in the ocean and battled far bigger waves than Blue Thunder can throw. It is not law in Texas for a rider to wear a life vest.

...though humans are more buoyant in salt water than fresh.

All the same, if he's experienced and is obeying the law (or even not), it's his call if he wants to wear one or not. I'm certainly not gonna judge.

Nice aerial!
