Engine Cutting out

Ok everyone, I need some Help!! I getting extremely frustratate with this one. I have written earlier about my 2001 Sunsetter dieing at 2700 rpms. I went through all of the trouble shooting this past week, I changed the the fuel filters, I checked the screen in the fuel line, I have taken out all of my old gas and replaced it with 92 grade gasoline. I have checked the kill switch as well a checked the fuel pressure. Everything checked out good. I went out today to test everything and i sat at the dock instead of driving out to the lake, I reved the engine to 2500 rpms and it ran great for 3 minutes and then died, I did this four times and everytime i let up on the throttle when it started dieing and the engine continued to run. It only dies when i hit 2500 or more. Can anyone help me with this, i dont want to take this in to the shop again and spend more money. Thanks

This may be a shop thing because unless you are really mechanically inclined and have Diacom to read the engine ECM your not going to know what to look for or be able to see what is shutting off.

You need to figure out the issue to isolate it, are you loosing Fuel, Spark, Air, or compression? Then from there move on.

From the sounds of it, it sounds like a ignition advance or ECM/electronic issue.

Wish you luck

Paul

this is totally frustrating, i just had the Engine Ignition Module changed, $120 later. I hate taking this to the dealer to have this diagnosed, the engine only had 108 hours on it. Will the Diacom isolate the issue quickly if we know it is not a fuel issue

Did you change anything on the motor just before the problem started occuring?

I'm thinking you have a breach of the fuel line, that let's air get sucked in to it when it runs under high pressure.

I had this happen when an incorrect water seperating fuel filter was installed. I don't think a Diacom would pick that up.

What motor do you have? carb, throttle body, mpi?

I'm a little confused (by your two posts) as to whether you found the filter screen or not? Unless different than other fuel pumps for the era or your boat, it should be in the inlet tube of the fuel pump. The fuel hose needs to be removed. The filter can not be seen as it is in the metal fuel inlet tube of the pump. Thus the need to insert an object to pull it out of the inlet.

Given the fact that it always cuts out at the same rpm, I'd follow whatPaul from Bakes is suggesting. (You'll still want to know where that filter screen is for futue maintenance)

I have the monsoon 320 indmar 108 hours on the motor, the previous owner used the boat to get back and forth from their lake cabin that was boat access only. I was reading alot about vapor locks and it sounds like what is happening, but yesterday it was 70 degrees and the water was 63 degrees, i did not even take it out in the open water, i just sat at the dock and reved the engine to 2500 rpms and within 2 to 3 minutes it started to die. i let up on the throttle and it regained power. Any help would be appreciated- Sorry Fuel injected motor

Sounds like a fuel problem to me. So you've checkrd fuel pressure and it's in spec. There's another parameter that needs to be checked and that's fuel delivery. Youe need to see how much fuel is being pumped to the fuel rail by the pump system. The pump should be capable of delivering 1 pint in 30 seconds. Of course the engine does not use this amount but that's what the fuel system is capable of and if it doesn't deliver you have a restriction or a bad pump. If all filters have been replaced start looking at your fuel line and tank,... mabe even the pump. Pickup in the tank or the anti-syphon valve could be clogged.
