Need a new prop

So I totally destroyed my prop today at the lake by running into a shallow area. Anyway, where is the best place to buy a replacement prop? I'm in a '04 Wakesetter. I don't know a thing about props and am assuming it's a matter of removing the one and replacing with the other? How do I measure the one I have to match it up with a replacement?

Thanks...

If you look on your prop at the base of the nut on the shaft you will see the measurements. Will say something like 13.5X16.

If you were satisfied with your performance and the engine revs were in the correct range, replace the prop with the same diameter and pitch.

You can go to your local dealer or check one of the on-line stores (a few are forum supporters).

They also sell the tools you need.

A new prop is not cheap - $400+.

You might also see about having yours repaired and keeping it as a spare.

Read page 11 from the product catalog at this site: http://www.marinehardware.com/downloads/running_gear.pdf

CNC produced props will give super smooth performance. Look at http://www.acmemarine.com/ and www.ojprops.com/ -

You'll need to get at least a prop puller. You can buy it as a kit with a padded bag and a couple wrenches if you don't mind paying more for wrenches you might already have.

I bought a spare prop and the bag and tools a few years back and they all work great, but I found it a bunce easier to buy the correct size 1/2" drive socket. It owkrs so myuch better than the wrench.

Well I picked up a "like new" used prop on ebay for $150 and bought the prop tool for $50 so the cost wasn't as bad as it could have been.

It took about 15 minutes to change it out, I then turned the engine on and spinned the prop for a quick moment and the shaft is fine as the

prop spinned perfectly. I just need to get another cotter pin and I'm good to go.

Someone mentioned repairing the old prop and using it as a spare....man I don't know, the blades are pretty bent. Not sure what it would cost to

repair but if it's more than $150, well I know I can get a used one for at least that amount.

Thanks for the help....WR

If you bent the prop bad enough that it can't be remanned then you'll be lucky if nothing else is bent. You can't really tell with the naked eye. You'll have to put her in the water and feel for slight vibrations at all speeds. If you have a place in mind to reman the prop ask if you can email them a pic to determine if they can do it. Good Luck!!

Edit--BTW a prop reman will run between $100-150. If that seller has more of those props on ebay, I would buy them all!!!
