boat vibration

I ran into a very shallow spot and hurt the prop bad. Had it fixed, it look like new. Put the prop on and went out this weekend and now I notice a vibration. How do I know if it is the shaft or could it still be the prop. I ordred a new shaft from Malibu for $200. How hard is it to change the shaft and are there any tricks.

You can check the shaft for true with a dial indicator or putting a mark on the end of the shaft and rotating the shaft and see if the mark "walks"

Otherwise, if you're pulling the shaft anyway, you can roll the shaft on a flat surface like a table to see if it rolls evenly. You might want to aling the motor too.

Make sure the prop is installed correctly. Be careful not to push the key too far up into the keyway of the propshaft or you will get vibration.

Now thats a good one. First of all I am new to the inboard scene so forgive me. When I pulled the prop off there was no keyway in it, when I put the prop in I put a keyway in....Should I have done that ??????

No keyway or no key? The key is pretty darned important. No key is an easy fix. No keyway a bit more complicated. Know any good machinists?
