2005 Response ski compartment

Hi, I just got a 2005 Response lxi and noticed that there is water in this compartment in front of the cooler. I see where it can drain back into the boat but the drain is a little higher than the bottom of this compartment.

Can anyone tell me how do I keep this area free of water? Thanks.

...with a Shop Vac. Unfortunately, this is the lowest point when the boat is floating so the water will always collect there. Tip: if/when you "chilly dip" the bow, open the locker right away so the water gets down there fast.

I have the same year and model Response. Don't even bother trying to keep it dry. Occasionally pull the plug in the storage compartment when driving home and prop open the door to the storage area to dry it out.

I found a great way to deal with the water in there, just never open that door. As the others have said, my '05 always has water there. I gave up trying to keep it out.

Check the seal around the drain plug. Mine wasn't sealed from the factory and water from the bilge would migrate up there. Pulled the plug assembly and resealed. Now the only time water is in the front ski locker in after a wave over the front or after a huge down poor.

The only water that gets into mine gets dragged in or similar (yet to take a wave over the bow). I can't get a ski into the dang thing anyway (real poor design IMO, one of the few complaints I have about my boat) so that's not an issue. Periodically I pull the plastic liner thingie out and mop out whatever little bit of water is under there. A minor PITA but it goes with the territory.

My other complaint is the "cooler" in front of the "ski locker". The cooler doesn't cool because it's not insulated (makes a great trash can though...), if it were part of the ski locker I might actually be able to get a ski into the damn thing. But that's another thread.

I use the cooler for storage, dock lines, can koozies, speaker covers, etc. Ended up putting a light in there to find things at night.

I've got a few ideas on how to make the cooler a functional storage space while making the ski locker useable for normal sized humans. Pics to follow this winter as I complete the project.

Is there adequate air in the "ski locker" for a normal sized human to survive, and will it need to be re-named "human locker"? Biggrin.gif

Looking forward to your write up, Edwin. It would certainly be nice to be able to put both the spaces to use.

Also, will take "Onamission's" advice and check to see if the plug is properly sealed in my ski locker. It seems mine fills w/ bilge water, as well as the obligatory chilly dip water.
