True story - can't make this up. It's just too good. They'll remember us forever.

The bay of the lake where the beach is located is shallow. Four to five feet throughout. We set up a picnic pretty frequently - nice area - and we boat, ski, board, visit, grill, etc., at will. There is a bouy'd and marked swim area, and a nice area of groomed sand where boats beach; right next to the swim area. The bay is marked No-Wake roughly 100' out from the outermost edge of the swim area. Paint the picture of the bay in your head. It's worth it - and you'll need it. Whistling.gif

I took my sons out for the final sets before sunset. One on slalom and one on wakeboard. Wakeboard son was last to go. On the last run of his set, we towed back in to the bay and set ourselves up to end the evening. As usual, I drove straight toward the swim beach. Turned hard left as I reached the NO WAKE bouy, and slingshot the wakeboarding son toward the beach. He throws the rope and skims close to the beach, and sinks to the shallow bottom within a couple of steps of the water's edge.

Oddly, there was a group of people on the beach. They were outside the marked swim area, but for the most party, just standing out of the water, on the sand. As my son slingshots toward them, they start clapping. Very odd. As son sinks down in the water, steps from the edge, just like normal, I notice two other people in the water. The crowd on the beach is still clapping. Lots of pictures being taken too. Very odd. I pull away and circle around to come in and beach the boat.

So what just happened? My son did a slingshot move and skimmed right into the middle of a...

a baptism.

Full immersion type. The child being baptized was about 12 or so. The two people in the water were the baptizee, and the minister.

Hmmm.... Whistling.gif:unsure:

We're in a lot a lot of pictures.

Best part of it, when he finally came to a stop in the middle of the whole thing. He's standing on the bottom, waste deep in the water, still locked in his wakeboard bindings. Nothing he could do - at least not fast. He just stood there for a moment, probably still trying to figure out what was going on. Finally, he leaned down and started to get his feet out of the bindings so he could walk away. Not cool. But in hindsight - very funny.

I love it - If the weather holds my daughter-in-law and her little brother are getting baptized at Prineville Reservoir next Saturday - I'm thinking now of using this method. And since our Pastor has been behind my boat on the tube - I'm sure he'd be hip to performing the ceremony from there as well Whistling.gif

Not to bring religion into this or a bashing but Thank You for your idea....I am totally on board with this idea WOW, I love it. I am going to ask our Pastor to do the same for us. I was holding off the baptism for my youngest, I didn't know why till now. How cool to be baptized in nature, now I need to find the perfect spot. Thumbup.gif

There is a good Trace Atkins (big tall country singer-not AJ) video of a baptism. The goofy Baldwin brother is in it (they became friends on 'The Apprentice').

It's moving.

Yeah...OP here...I'm pretty sure I'm not going to receive any of those pix to post. My hunch - it's memorable for them, but not in a really great way. Dontknow.gif

Nothing we could do, no way to predict it, have never seen a baptism there, couldn't prevent it...but it sure was awkward. And in hindsight - super, super funny. Not because we crashed a religious covenant - but because...who'da thunk it. Whistling.gif

Never saw that, but that was cool - thanks for sharing! Thumbup.gif

My wife noticed a similar gathering 2 weeks ago and asked me what it was. I told her it was a mass babtismal. She asked me to swing closer, when I did (no wake), she proceded to honk the horn repeatedly until I could get the hell out of there. She was laughing so hard and had a look of complete satisfaction on her face.

Great story, I can't wait to tell my wife she has been one-up'd.

Wow, that was really rude and disrespectful.

That's what I thought, but she isnt Christian and not soft spoken about her views...but I am not here to discuss religion. I just drive the boat.

Yeah that's just wrong. The OP's story was classic and funny because it was a total accident and was certainly not meant to be rude or disrespectful, just wrong place at the wrong time. At least you boogied and didn't let her make more of a fool of herself. Thumbup.gif

True, very true. Even more than that - without being intentionally in the way, with no way to predict or avoid, we were still completely embarrassed for our our actions wishing it could have been different. Baptism is one of those things - especially baptisms that are other-than infant baptisms. Thank you for getting her out of there...it sounds like you are in agreement...what she was doing was just not fair.

I had another wrong place at the wrong time.

We were skiing lat fall, it was a bit windy so we were hugging the shore line. We were the only boat on the water this was in Oct. in Mi. so no one else was out.

We skied down the lake and a small crowd was out by one dock. We did not give it much thought at the time. We made two runs each and came home. Later in the day we found out the people were spreading ashes from the person who owned the house. He had committed suicide about two months before.

True story….

Before the flight student went up she asked her instructor if it would be OK to throw her fathers ashes over the Gulf of Mexico near Destin, FL. The instructor said OK but she had to wait till he said “when”. She didn’t wait, opened the window and opened the jar. The ashes flew right back into the plane! It was in their clothes, hair and everything else you can think of. The instructor flew the plane back to the airport and ended all future lessons with her.

They were over the Gulf right?
