Response Throttle Issue

My daughter-in-law was easing up to the dock to let me off to grab the truck and trailer and before I knew what was happening my boat was going full-speed toward the boat ramp. I know some 2008 models had a problem going into gear while the shifter was in neutral, but that didn't affect the Response. She swears the shifter was in neutral, but when I looked it was in the full-speed position. Is it possible for the shifter to pull itself forward? I'm totally freaked out at the thought that my boat can go full-speed ahead after clicking into neutral.

Completely different shifter control so the issue is non-related.

With the shifter locked in the neutral position you can't move it forward. Pretty easy thing to verify. BUT if she was not in neutral and did not have her hand on the throttle, if you hit any sort of bump the weight of the shift knob could pull the throttle down.

My guess is that it wasn't "locked" into neutral and she had her hand off the throttle.

I would definitely lock it in neutral and try to move it forward to make sure it is actually locking it in neutral.

Thank you so much - I didn't realize the weight of the shift knob could do that but it makes sense. I suspect it wasn't actually locked into neutral either but I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. I'm still going to check it out. Thanks again for the reply!
