2000 sportster speedometer adjustment

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000 Sportster, on the dash it has two toggles one with speed adjustment with a up and down arrow on the left and a pilot toggle with a side to side arrow on the right. Can someone point me to where I would find the instructions of how to adjust these? I searched this site, google, checked the maunal and sent Malibu an email, but have not had any luck yet. I know the crew will come up with the answer. Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this is the best way, but we take a GPS based unit out with us, set the pitot select switch to either pitot, hold a speed until the GPS speed settles in, then use the adjust toggle to make the speedo read to match what the GPS shows, repeat the process for the other pickup.

The pitot select button (the one with the right and left arrows) is used to select a particular pitot to read on the speedometer. When in the 'center' position, the speedo will display whichever pitot is reading the highest. Also, when this switch is in the center position, the adjustment button does not function.

To adjust your speedo, you must select either the right or left pitot (pickup) and use the adjust button to make any corrections (and a GPS is great for this). Then you must adjust the other pitot.

Then put you select button in the center postion and you're all set.
