DD Moisture in trunk

Recommended Posts

On my 07 Rlxi I cant keep the trunk dry. The water is from wet skis The problem is I don't see any air vents so the trunk stays wet and the carpet will get mildew and stink. I brace the trunk open when I get back from a ski but often it is late evening so I will need to cover the boat. Any one have a fix??????

As the weather cools, I put a bunch of towels on the floor of the trunk. I make sure to drain as much of the water off the skis as possible, and the towels get the rest. When we're finished for the day, I just pull the towels and the trunk is dry.

Pull the bottom of the trunk out, make another one out of star board or another plastic and have it covered in Line-X. They do colors. Keep the original for resale.

Just a thought...

My 03 RLX sits on the lift at my house, the boathouse is directly under my house like a garage so it's closed in completely, I prop the trunk open and let it dry but since we ride about 5/7 days a week it wasn't getting dry. I put a little (but powerful) fan back there when I come in and leave it open and it seems to do the trick. You could do that even with it closed and cover on it if you have capability to run an extention cord back there. Just turn it off the next morning and you should be set!

On the same line of thinking as Sippi if you have power at the lift, you could get a lil fan and put it on a timer. Like the ones used in a hotel bath heater. They have 'em at Depot. I think they have a couple different versions- 0-20min/1-4 hrs etc.

OR add a bilge blower to the trunk in the gunwale. You could even wire it with a pigtail so you just throw a short cord into the trunk and have it on a timer like I described above...

i've got a spare piece of carpet from the trunk of an old buick.

nice finished edges all around so no irish pennants.

i drop it in before i load the trunk and it catches the lions share of h2o.

hang it to dry between trips.

When I get home from the lake I always take a shop vac and suck the water out of the carpet, then put 2 rotating fans in the boat and a 3rd small fan in the trunk. I have a couple of short sections of PVC pipe I use to prop the trunk hatchs and motor box open slightly to allow for air flow. Let 'em run for a couple of days until everything is nice and dry. I also take out the floor panel behind the motor box (the one covering the drive shaft area) and prop it against the wall on a brick or such so it drains off and dries. Allows the bilge to dry out too. Never a problem with mildew or funky smell issues.

guess that might be old and navy (usn as opposed to old navy the retail outlet).

irish pennants == loose threads
