Help! Need to hear the voices of reason in used wakesetter hunt

I'm looking for a used wakesetter with perfect pass, ballast, depth gauge and low hours (will go up to 250, but would like something in the 100s). Great condition. My budget is $33K max and preferably under $30K. I'd like an LSV (preferred) or VLX. Am I dreaming?

Location: Reno, NV.

Seems like the LSV owners think their boats are truly worth $36K and the VLX owners not much less than that, really. So is there a boat like I want out there to be had? Obviously would like to stay in the norcal/nevada region, say a 500 mile radius. But that's a lot of people (SF, Sacto, Portland, LA).

03/04 LSV can be bought in the mid 30's

I just sold my 06 vride for a similar number and I have a friend that would take upper 20's for his 03 VLX

Big difference in those years. Engines, Gorilla fins, tanks or bags, Perfect Pass or Malibu Cruise, etc.

LSV, I think your dreamin. But maybe. VLX or Vride, easy to find.

100 hrs on an 03? All the engine rubber would be dried out & cracked & begging to be replaced. Been there. It's better to find a boat that has been used & maintained.

Use this site to search multiple Craigslist cities at once: http://www.crazedlist.org/

And of course, http://www.onlyinboards.com

I've got a sweet 2002 21LSV that would be near your price range. It sits on a diamond hull so it skiis great and with the included wedge and some weight the boarding wake is arguably as good as a VLX - and the surf wake is awesome.

Illusion tower w/ racks, wet sounds speakers, lights, samson mirror, monsoon motor, perfect pass star gazer GPS, ROCKIN soundstream/wetsounds/alpine/JL audio sound system, dual optima blue top batteries w/hell roaring automatic isolator & combiner, extra depth finder, SS cupholders, new matching cover, sits on a covered list all summer and in the garage all winter, fresh water only....the list goes on.

White hull w/ red accents, tan carpeting, tan & white vinyl.

281 hours - mostly skiing. In great condition - no scratches, stains or tears.

on the east coast...

Yup, I'd take Andy's boat in a heartbeat if I were looking for a 23'.

amazing what a year does. We paid 2k less for a 21vride 1 year ago. A well optioned vride but.......

One year ago we got a pretty good deal.......today not so much!

Thanks guys. I guess like the nestle quik bunny used to say, patience is a virtue. Feels like my boat fund is literally burning a hole in my pocket and I want to be done with the hunt. Cannot believe how many flaky people there are out there selling boats too! If I didn't know better I'd wonder whether some of them really even want to sell... From the guy who won't take his boat on the water because it's uninsured to the lady who says she wants to sell but won't call to set up a viewing.... Frustrating!

yeah the money will burn a hole in the pocket, but I waited and waited till I found the one I wanted. I got an 05 23 lsv in the color I wanted and the boat was loaded and in pristine condition. I think your budget may be a little low for an 04/05 model, maybe for a 03 but your not gonna find one with the hours requirement. something has to give on that. good luck

Been there, with a hole in my pocket. Know what you mean.

I think gilby00 shows some good knowledge of todays market.

If you want to make the drive down Shawn, happy to put her on the water for you. Biggrin.gif

Andy you've been nothing but helpful. Gotta trust a seller who steers the buyer toward third party resources to aid the hunt. Thanks again.

I'm sorta starting to develop this manic compulsion to find the right deal right now. Usually that's a sign to me to take a hiatus... when I know everything posted on every craigslist within 500 miles within 30 minutes of it being posted, I think it's safe to say I have a problem. Sounds like I might be better off waiting for the first real cold snap and see if that scares any deals out of their climate controlled storage facilities.

BTW, as a kid we used to make fun of my grandfather for driving 25 miles to save a nickel a gallon on gas. I'm starting to think it might be genetic ;)

Guessing you have already looked at Salt Lake Craigslist, but here are a couple listing on another site in SLC.

Seems like there are boats being listed daily and easy drive from Reno.

Thanks snowrider! Yeah SLC would not be a bad haul at all. Still have a few homies there from my time at the U too, so it could be a dual purpose trip. I'll add the KSL site to my monitoring regimen (LOL, typical utah'n to use a KSL site for ads more than craigslist).

I have news for you, there is no way you want an 02-04 boat with under 100 hours. These things need to be run, sitting around with old gas and not being used is not a good thing.

That is SO true. I went to school out there as well, and leave it to them to TRY and re-invent the wheel.

Find it hard to believe you live in Reno and board there vs. staying in UT (looking at your pic). The snow there was/is HEAVEN! My freshman year they had a record snowfall. Man, the best years I've had on a board were there. Miss it every year living here in CA.

My wife and I both actually grew up in Las Vegas, so Reno was supposed to be a one year post-grad pitstop on the way "home." I did undergrad here (reno) and I always loved it in comparison to our glitzy sister city to the south. That was 12 years ago. I think we're staying put.

Without getting too political, etc., my wife and I aren't LDS, and even in SLC (rather cosmopolitan by Utah stds) that can make childrearing "weird." Schools are so poorly funded with the church picking up extracurriculars (scouting, sports, etc). That said, plenty of my non-LDS classmates did stay and are raising happy health families there. I do miss the early mtn time tv schedule. And streets on a grid.

As Nevadans my wife and I both had to learn the state song "Home Means Nevada" in the 4th grade. A curious bit of mind control, that.... I think we had to come back!

But yeah, no better place to be a snow bum than Utah on a good year. I certainly miss the face shots!

The CFO is a sun shine state girl, so that left me with only a few options. Sadly, I'm far away from that Best Snow on Earth come winter time. Boarding anywhere else just makes me sad. So, talked her into the Bu and we have fun in the sun instead :)

Sorry man, hijacked your thread way off.

- Everyone help find Shawn a Bu!

LOL, no worries, good stuff! And you may notice that in my avatar pic I'm riding hardboots, plate bindings and I'm on a skinny alpine snowboard. Nothing better than chalky hardpack groom on one of those... so Tahoe is great!
