Speedo and Tac stop working

Hello I have a 05 V-Ride. I was out on the water the other day and noticed that the speedo and tac stopped working. Has any one else had this problem? I called the dealer and they told me that the black box under the dash has gone bad. I wanted to see if any of you have had this problem and what you had to do to fix. Thanks for the help.

Do the other gauges (temp, oil press, fuel, ) still work? There was another member who had a fuse go on one of the wires (power/ignition) to the black box that kill all his gauges.

I'm not sure on the '05, but here is a troubleshooting guide for the MDC gauges.

When I turn the key on the speedo resets but the tac does not viberate. All of the other guages work great. Thanks for the trouble shooting guide.

Did you try swapping the wires of the tach/speedo & still have the tach dead?

If so, sounds more like the tach has gone bad instead of the MDC, but could be the MDC too. Any friends nearby with a similar boat whose tach you could borrow? most 98+ should use similar gauges.

As wienrdog mentioned earlier, i had a gauge issue that was just a fuse earlier this summer. Of course, it sounds like this is not the issue. I had another friend who had a simliar issue to yours this summer. What we did to resolve his was to just unplug and reinsert all of the plugs on the backs of all of the gauges. Maybe something got rattled loose while trailering, but we don't know.

Do everything you can possibly think of before plunking down the $250 plus (Bakes has them) for a new MDC.
