Best and worst mods done to Bu

Recommended Posts

In an effort to get 'meaningful content' what are your favorite upgrades/mods?

Mine are:

Best

1) PP

2) Fuel flow gauge (due to lack of working gas gauge)

3) Engine Insulation

4) Amp/Sub

5) Stewart's SS cup holders

6) MK Wave mirror arm (Rod R)

7) Upgraded Ballast bag

8) Depth gauge

9) Bat rack board and ski rack

10) Gator Grip

11) Isotta throttle knob

Worst

1) Flush pro - It broke while out in Havasu! They have since re-designed the plastic to be stronger. But it is still PLASTIC!

Edit to add Rod's mirror arm

Nice work Kelly - good effort at the content

... without some direction I'll wander around and make trouble Biggrin.gif

Good stuff: (no particular order)

PP

external music jack (for MP3, Sat etc..)

all the stereo stuff sub, B530's, amps.. etc

NewtShooter (built into back locker with a sprayer that comes out the back vent)

Ballast! (haven't ridden that yet)

Powdercoated platform brackets & wedge foil (will see how well the foil holds up)

New Acme prop - (down one step from stock for better pull when weighted)

Have a IR repeater for the HU remote - Stewart recommended mod, just need to install it

Not as good Stuff

speaker covers - screamin sacks.. they might work out ok, just not stoked on 'em

trailer guides - trying to figure out a good solution, mine dont float up, so I have to clamp them up, or they rub on the hull = scars for me to fix

Need to figure out how to insulate these bow ice chests- (plug in the drain helps)

Good Mods

1. Pop up bow light (it just looks cool)

2. Hydroturf at the bow and down the gunnels. (kids don't slip while cannon balling)

3. extra set of wind block rails mounted to side of walk through. (don't have to put the thing away and get it out 5 times a day)

4. Double subs installed under spotter seat. (I like to feel it. Shocking.gif )

5. New ballast system (300lbs in rear and extra 200 midship)

6. Transum guard (everyone slips and whacks the boat once in a while)

7. Solid struts for bimini. (much sturdier)

8. Rankin Cover. (nuf said)

9. Insulated engine dog house. (you can actually talk to your spotter)

10. Rods mirror arm. (looks and works too cool)

Mods to come

1. Tinted windshield.

2. Silent Rider mufflers.

3. Crome exhaust tips.

4. Polish and clearcoat the tower.

5. New foil/board rack.

6. Stewarts SS cup holders.

7. Tower Speaker setup.

8. 5" Bow Speakers.

9. THEMALIBUCREW logo at the rear side panels above the rub rail in drip mold.

10. Move the shower controls to the trunk.

Bad Decisions

1. Towing bra from Malibu. (it didn't cover enough so we sent it back)

We couldn't be happier with the boat and if we get it to where we run out of things to upgrade, we might have to start over. Yahoo.gif

I have come close to the polished pylon a few times, but since I rarely use it and it is recessed I have spent the money elsewhere...I just don't know how they get that much to chrome it.

Mods

Chrome plated brass thru hull fittings; my boat came with the SS rub rail on it so this just finnished out the look.

1100 gph rule pump and shut off valve for front ballast bag.

Mako tower speakers with MB Quart speakers, Kenwood Amp and EQ; had to put the EQ in because the sorry JVC radio had only one set of RCA jacks. Frustrated.gif

Mods that came with the boat

SS rub rail

wakeboard rack

bimini top

Future mods

Bags for the rear ballast

Tinted windshield

Another tower rack

Best mods so far:

1. PerfectPass

2. Shower

3. Attaching the heater air hose to the heater (don't know how that thing got knocked off!)

No bad mods so far...

Best upcoming mod: turning a $6 second-hand wetsuit into tower and tie-down pads :)

pylon and rack.

5ch. amp, sub and new HU.

depth finder.

soon a fuel flow gauge.  the 'bu fuel tank gauge isn't very accurate.

fat sacks.

Don't get me started. Joe (slider) left that item off of our list, but as soon as I find a decently priced model that allows for the return line on our EFI, it's going in the boat. I HATE the gauge in our boat. Mad.gif

Added an tower mounted anchor light. Now that I have made one of them I find myself trying to figure out how I can produce enough of them to supply everybody that owns a Malibu. :)
