Whining Noise When Idling in gear?

Recommended Posts

After our Houseboating trip Last Week, I have noticed a whining noise from what sounds like the Shaft. It only happens when I put it in gear at Low Rpm's I was thinking it may be the packing not being lubricated enough (too tight?). I have no experience with this part of the boat.

I would sure appreciate some other opinions.

Thanks

I just put a brand new Acme 525 on in the last 2 weeks but at first I never heard the whining. Since then I think I have put a few tiny nicks in it but nothing serious Cry.gif

Could it be the nicks in the prop?

Could be the prop, mine was an Acme that would sing. I knew for a fact that it was the prop because the boat didn't do that with the other prop that I had. Can you change to another prop & at the very least rule that out?
