Flightcraft Sportster Freeboard?

Recommended Posts

Dose anyone know the actual differences between the Flightcraft Sportster (<97) and the malibu sportster (98+).

From what I have read the flighty has less freeboard. But I cant find any measurements anywhere. WakeGirl has put the beam and draft up and they appear to be the same. I have also heard they have a deeper V which might mean they respond better to weight when creating a wake?

I am looking a buying one and would like to know how much I am giving up, as the 97 is ~$3K cheaper than the 98.

Both are low. Don't worry about measurements, it really won't matter.

The Flightcraft Sportster has a lower bow deck, narrower walk-way between engine box and gunnels, and smaller interior, all the way around.

It's also sleeker, and has a better barefoot and wakeboard wake out of the box.

The Malibu Sportster has a shorter bow that is a touch higher, more interior room all the way around, and an excellent wake for slalom and barefoot out of the box.

The Flighty will ride better on rough water, and while fast, the Sportster with 310 hp will give it a hard run for the money. The Flighty is likely only 260 hp.

Hope that helps.

Thanks.

I bought the flighty and am very happy with it. I did notice that the wake somehow appears more solid than the 98 sportster, even with less weight. But either way I am very happy with the deal.

Cheers

Yes, the Flighty wake is much more solid (greater density) than the Malibu Sportster. Better Barefoot and Wakeboard wake than the Malibu Sportster, but still okay for slalom.

When you're done with it let me know. ;)
