Auto Wedge Problems

Recommended Posts

I have been having issues with my Power Wedge and more specifically the Auto Wedge feature. I figure there are enough Malibu employees or mechanics that view these posts that someone can help me out with this issue.

The Auto Wedge is working sporadically and is not consistent. Most of the time it resets to the all the way down (least drag) setting but occasionally it remains in the engaged wedge setting (with drag) even without the cruise control on. But the biggest problem I am having is when we select a preset with a specified wedge location. Sometimes the wedge never comes up from the fully down position (maybe 25% of the time). It it does actually come up the desired location dictated by the preset never seems to be reached. Sometimes the wedge adjusts higher and sometime lower than the location that we set. To make matters even more confusing when the rider falls, without disengaging the pre-set, and we go to pull the same rider back up the previous wedge location is almost never restored and will need to be adjusted to the correct location manually.

I recently tried calibrating the Wedge to see if that would solve the problems I was experiencing but it did not. We still needed to manually move the wedge into the desired location.

It might be worth mentioning that I previously had a problem with the wedge where it locked up in an undesirable location and one of the actuators seized up and needed to be replaced.

Can anyone help or point me in the direction of someone to call at Malibu regarding the issue. I talked to the mechanic at our dealership and he is perplexed by the issue.

I did try to search but maybe I was not entering in the correct key words. I will keep searching.

The search that is part of the site leaves a LOT to be desired. Go to google and type your search parameters followed by "site:themalibucrew.com", for example

"power wedge stuck site:www.themalibucrew.com"

The google results will be limited to posts on this site.

I had issues with a screwy power wedge when it was first installed. As the boat was under warranty, they replaced the control unit and it's been working fine ever since.

OTN, Can you explain what you had going wrong. I have had minor issues with the wedge from day 1 also. Since your boat is the same model and year, maybe they have the same fault.

It sounds like you may have a problem with teh mux box which basically controls the wedge functions.

When you have wedge problems, there are really only a few things that can be the culprit, I would make sure none of these things are the problem and if they are not then I would take it into the dealership and have them check out the mux box:

Try recalibrating wedge again

Check to see that the actuators are not broken or locked up or locking up. You can check this by unplugging them and seeing if the turn freely.

Also check that the wedge is not blown. It can be locatewd under the helm there is a black box that you will have to remove the cover and check for a blown fuse.

Also make sure your speedo is reading, if it is then your paddlewheel should be fine. If it isnt check the paddlewheel

Thanks for pointing out that there is indeed an inline fuse in addition to the circuit braker with the reset button. I check for that after reading your post and it solved my problem. Back on the water tomorrow!!

Great feedback . I don't get why you can't search for words less than 4 letters.
