Mad.gif $247.54 going to the County of Ventura (CA) tax collector for a 2002 boat. I don't get it. I paid my sales tax when I bought the boat. I pay the registration fees to the DMV. I am really tired of getting my pockets picked! (the 2 Seadoos came to $126.37). Just venting - sorry!

Michigan thought about doing that too ... until a lot of people bitched about how that would shoot the state in the foot with travel being 2nd or 3rd biggest industry in MI ... a lot of that revolves around boating.

Thats California. Take money from hard working people to support the growing number of illegals. I'm glad I only work there a few times a year! :)

You have a few options. If you can provide an address in another state and proove that the boat resides/is stored in that state, you do not have to pay the property tax on that vehicle. It pretty easy to do. Depends on how POd you are. ALso seems a tad high, You can call the county and request the boat be reappraised. Again just depend on how much patience you have dealing with dullards!!

It has gotten sooo bad that if you store your boat in a public storage unit, storage units are required to submit paperwork to that county. Then that county bills you!! Talk about big brother.

CA does the same with RV's, planes, etc. VAT!!

Thank you Pelosi, Boxer, Di Fi, and that beacon in the sky Maxine Waters!!!

I'm getting ready to pay my $225 for this yr and had called up to make sure I was not paying to much. In yrs past they have dropped the value but this yr all boats had dropped 12% and next yr will be about the same. I would still call them to see about lowering the value of the boat.

It's total BS, mine was $431.00, It started out as a luxury tax and now they call it a vessel storage something or other. Just a crock Whistling.gif

Yeah that is bull. Another thing that gets me is paying tax for a used boat or car. The tax was payed when the product was sold new. No new product was made so how can they justify re-taxing it when it is re-sold. It just burns me how many ways you are bled by the man.

I'm feeling pretty bad for you all out there in the peoples republic of California. Taxes are high enough already. Voice your opinion at the polls as suggested by Sixball......time to stop the madness.

Go to MI, TN, Nebraska, WI......many good lakes in those states..

Thast is pretty crazy that you pay tax every yer on the same boat... I bought my boat in California and tha only tax I paid was the GST at the border when bringing it across...

I paid $100 (one time registration) to register the trailer and the boat they register free of charge..

It's called "unsecured property." Mine is $422.59.

They had never sent me a bill (since '04) then last year they send me 4 bills. ('05, '06', '07 & '08) Total was about $2500. I paid 2 and was going to pay the other 2 a month later (per the dumbass I spoke to on the phone!!!) He forgot to tell me they will slap a lien on your property..... Now my credit is effed up!

Ultimately it's my responsibility, but the DMV is supposed to notify the tax man that I had "unsecured property" and did not. They finally got me in the system when I rented a slip for a year @ Melones.

...ya had to get me started! UUUUUUuuuuggggggg!

They called it a "Luxury Tax" to get it voted in by all the welfare recipients, illegals, liberals, and in-breds, who figure "if you have a luxury item you must be rich and that's not fair"...blah, blah, blah...

I'm so sick of this shyte. Mad.gif

EDIT: one last thought...Luxury? They've never ridden in a Sporty.

that is crazy. hope the powers that be don't get that idea in their head up here. right now we get free permanent boat registration and in Alberta we pay $100. for a permanent trailer plate. Gotta love the oil revenue.

Hold on. In the original post the money was going to Ventura County. Is this a county tax or a state tax?

County, Same as your Property Tax.
