what horsepower is my motor

Recommended Posts

I am looking at a 1987 sunsetter to possibly buy. What horsepower motor came with this boat. It has a Chevy 350 which I think is the 260 Hp motor, but I am not sure. Also, the seller is asking $6995 for this boat, does this sound like a reasonable price...the boat is in pretty good condition.

i had a 1988 Malibu skier..it had the 350 mercruser. It is 260hp. Really hard to judge the price. It depends on alot of factors....hours on the boat, interior condition, floor/stinger condition, etc.

o.K. but the sunsetter is a bigger boat so would it have the same motor? By the way boat has 429 hours; interior is good, no tears on seats; floor stringers have been replaced. What do you think?....thanks for the help

I would bet money that it is the same motor. The Sunsetter is only 1 foot longer (20' 6") if I recall correctly. I ordered my skier from the factory in Merced and had only 1 choice for engines. If I recall correctly the same motor went in all the boats they were building at that time.

Hours are pretty low for a 22 yr old boat. Price seems pretty good, but you can negotiate it down. Lots of boats for sale. Be sure to test drive it before you buy it. Also, ask lots of questions on the maintenance history...how often they changed the oil, transmission fluid. Was it stored indoors. Winterized during the winter / off season. If all checks out good.....I'd say go for it.

I am scheduled to test drive the boat tomorrow night. Thanks for the advice!!!

I also have an 88 skier. As said in a previous post price is dependant on what shape the boat is in. i paid 9k for my boat two years ago, boat had 450 hrs, brand new 320 hp engine, floor boards replaced, and a new interior installed, and a brand new big air tower installed. the boat really looked good for a twenty year old boat. so it really comes down to how much do you want to spend.
