shrill whistle sound after replacing prop

Recommended Posts

I dinged my prop slightly, enough to cause some vibration when pulling a skier out of the water. Replaced the prop with a spare that was identical. No vibration but when idling forward there is a shrill whistling sound. It goes away with a bit more speed. Seems to be coming from the engine. I wonder if there is some harmonic that is causing the springs or something in the flex plate to vibrate at a very high frequency. Any ideas as to what it could be. Boat is an 05 RLXi with 383 HH with <150 hours. Prop is a 13x13 425

Thanks

Are you sure it's coming from the engine compartment? Did you lift the cover to see?

Before I changed out my cutless bearing (strut), I had a sort of muffled whistling sound (in water). When I sped up just a bit (from idle) it would go away. I installed one of the new plasic bearings from SkiDim and it's been much more quiet every since.

This very well could have been what was making noise on mine as well. I did have my prop re-worked while replacing the cutless bearing.
