Glove Box - Tears into Upholstery

I know most of you have wrap around seating, but my LSV has sport seating and a glove box.

I love this set-up (the seat swivels and slides fore / aft), but the knob for the glove box (lockable) will leave an impression on the upholstery when opened. The lid does not have any bracket or support and just lays all the way down.

I have been experimenting with options, and finally have a solution that seems to work.

I added a bracket inside the glove box, towards the back of the left side.

I drilled and tapped a 1/4-20 hole in the inside of the door, about 1/4" deep (the door is about 1/2" thick stainless steel).

I added a small bracket and the then 1/8" aviation cable and cable clamps and adjusted the length so the door sits level and is about 1" above the upholstery.

I think this is a real design "flaw" with the sport seating set up and hard to believe there is no bracket to hold the door.

If anyone else with sport seating has this problem, send me a PM with your email and i will send a few pictures of how this ended up.

Total cost of the final solution is less than $20 (i bought stainless hardware and most of it a quantity of 10 to get 1), plus $10 for a bottoming tap and the right sized drill bit.

This has been mentioned before. and you get it with the standard wrap around seating also when the billet door is open. Sounds like a good fix. BTW, it's polished aluminum, not stainless steel, but we knew what you meant. Pretty easy to drill into wasn't it!

Actually i checked - it is the billet chrome upgrade - not aluminum.

highly polished and hard, especially considering that i only wanted to go 1/2 way thru.

i will post a few pictures and a list of materials

this solution survived 2 days at the lake :)

I noticed the same problem on mine. Whats worse is when people open the glove box door and then open the hatch below without closing the door.

I can just see this knob eventually marking or even tearing the material.

One easy solution for malibu is using a knob that doesn't have sharp edges. Looking fwd to seeing your mod.
