perfect pass problem

I'm having a problem with my early generation perfect pass. The way it normally works is that when I turn the engine off the perfect pass also turns off. I restart the engine, then I have to select the 'on' to turn the perfect pass back on. Recently the perfect pass comes on immediately after I start the engine, without doing anything else. The problem is the perfect pass is remembering the last speed setting that it was using, and if I try for a faster speed, it attempts to slow me down. It isn't resetting no matter what I do. Any suggestions?

You are now experiencing normal Perfect Pass operation. It should always remember that last state it was in. If it was on and set to 30 when you turned the boat off, it should be on and set to 30 when you turn the boat back on. You can always turn it off if you don't want it on. Maybe there is a reset setting that I am unaware of, but I have used several version of PP and they have always behaved in this way.

You could always give PP a call, they are very helpful.

I took the boat out again today with the same results. I was unable to adjust the speed that the PP was aquiring and I can't turn the PP off at the control-head. Basically it seams locked onto the last speed as its only target. Still frustrated and fairly certain this isn't normal.

So what you're saying is that when you push buttons on the control/readout gauge it doesn't do anything? The buttons aren't working? If so then a) try unplugging the gauge from the PP ECM, check connections, plug it all back in to see if it works. If not then B) you need to replace the control gauge. If I'm off base please clarify. I have a bud with an '04 MC 197 who could not turn on/off his PP (on/off button wouldn't work), had to replace the gauge.
