Twisted Ankle

Hey guys...I twisted my ankle last night when I stepped on a rock while running. Besides the basics like ice, Aleve, and keeping it elevalted, does anyone have any other advise that would get me back out on the water sooner?

Thanks in advance! :)

How bad is the twist? I find that the more i baby a injury like this the longer it take to get back on the board. Ice and rest for a couple days then get up and moving, wrap it up nice so that it is stable, because it is to weak to support you and get moving.

Tape the he!! out of it, grit your teeth and go for it! Will probably take longer to heal though...

All playing aside, injuries suck, I am sorry to hear you are down for a bit.

txwakejunkie: It's not too bad...Last night I couldn't even walk around the Apt. I've been moving around all day and it seems to be helping a little.

Shine: I thought about that....Wouldn't it be more stable in a wakeboot? It would kinda form a cast around it.

And if your responsible for your own wake, shouldn't you be responsible for your own landscaping rock????? Dontknow.gif

Maybe I should sue the homeowner for pain and suffering... Whistling.gif

Last year when I injured my ankle I just duct taped it to keep it stable and went skiing. Pop a few alieve and repeat, granted it was tough to flex the rear ankle but nonetheless it worked.

The bike or trainer is a great way to help an ankle injury as it keeps the stress off yet flexes it.

Tape is cheap and would add more stability than just the boot alone. I'm with M-dude, if I could stand on it and it was just painful to move I would still ski...

From my son the football player: ice the crap out of it immediately after the injury and for the first 24 hours. Keep it wrapped tightly so it can't swell.

From me the weinie: take plenty of Vitamin I (ibuprofen) and wash it down with single malt.

If is not swelling anymore, discontinue the ice. Ice's only purpose is to reduce swelling. After that you are just making your foot cold.

I had a real bad fall while slalom skiing and my new animal front binding didn't release. The foot doctor told me that I tore the ligament that runs acrosss the top of my foot and due to my age(36) it could take up to 6 months to heal, but if I was 16 probably only about a month.THANKS DOC! He said the only way that it heals is by scarring. The worst part of the whole thing was my wife had taken my soap out of my bag to wash dishes with so getting my foot out of the binding was some of the worst pain I have ever felt

That's grounds for divorce where I come from.

The dishes go dirty before the boat goes soapless.

I rolled mine about 2 months ago playing softball. Elevate it, Ice it for 12 minutes on, 12 minutes off, repeat. Cant remember why but 12 is the magic number. I couldnt even walk for a few days but now I am back playing softball 2 months later.

You have most likely damaged your anterior talo-fibular ligament. once the pain and swelling starts to reduce, begin to move your foot around gently while sitting around to gently stretch it. this will help to reduce scarring and limit changes to your range of motion by keeping the ligament a similar length.

get someone to show you how to tape it too.

Thanks for all the help!! Well the good news is that I've been able to walk around on it for the las two days without much pain at all. It's still painful if I move it in certain directions, but I've been icing it when I get home from work at night and taking aleve. Its still swollen above and to the front of my ankle bone with a very light bruise below.

Thanks for all the help!!

I did mine in a 2 weeks ago trying out my new wakeboard. Hurt like jesus. I got up immediately after doing it and was ok. When I took it out of the binding thats when the pain started!
