2003 Response LXI - Speedo not working

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I know this ia a common thread and I've read many posts, tried a few things, but I can't get my speedo working on my 03 LXI. I purchased a replacement paddle wheel and no change. The guage needle moves a bit when turned on (initialize), but nothing after that. Called Malibu had me try the speed calibration switch, but no luck. I believe it's either the guage or module, both expensive shots in the dark. Is there a way to test the guage to see if the needle can/will deflect? Maybe a voltage going to the guage. As a side bar, I've got an intermittent alarm, but I believe that is my tansmission sensor, as I've checked the others. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob

Check the wire running from the paddle wheel to the dash. I had a small cut in mine and it would not work. I cut out the bad section spliced it back together and it started working again.

Thanks, acutally bought a new paddle wheel, unplugged the old one...still not working. I also noticed that the lake temp was about 7 degrees off of the actual temp of the lake. I am hoping that it's the actual speedo and not the control module. Hopefully I can find a way to test the guage to see if it is mechanically working.

Thanks again....great weekend on the water just the same.

Hi all - I have a similar issue with an '04 lxi, except that the speedo is reading excessive speed by about 15 mph as measured against an IPhone speed app and the tach for the speed intended. Is there any possibility that there's some sort of clog inside the paddle intake? Paddle turns freely but if there's something in there that makes the water go through a smaller opening than is intended, would that not make it flow faster, thus the higher reading? Coincidentally, this began after the boat was driven by a novice driver through a very weedy area of the lake - easy to do this time of year in NE. If this theory is correct, what would be the fix? Any ideas?

Thanks for any input - GenieH
