Ski Question

I'm looking at buying this ski, it was a floor sample that got scraped up when moving it around. I'm considering buying it if I get a good enough deal, but now I'm wondering if these chips are going to lead to a delaminating problem or some other problem down the road. Any opinions?

Thanks for any input.

What ski is it? Generally when I've had edge scrapes/gouges/handle dings on the edges I've been able to soak some super glue into the area to seal and reinforce it, no issues with that type of fix to date. It really depends on a) how bad is the damage (superficial edge scrapes, or more into the structure of the ski?), B) how hard you'll be skiing it versus what type of damage it actually has, and c) are you getting it cheap enough to be worth whatever inherent risk you're taking on buying a slightly damaged ski?

It's an HO Triumph. I don't plan on spending more then $250 (don't know if I will get it for that little though) on it, and it has double Venom bindings. With the new boat money for my extra's is slim, right now I'm on a 20 year old Connelly shortline with the back pocket neck ripped off, so it is definitely an upgrade.

I don't think there is any other damage as the ski was never used.

THanks for the input.

I would think brushing it with polyurethane would work. It would soak into the chipped area making a pretty good seal. And since polyurethane is clear it won’t be as noticeable.

Lost it. The winning bid was $251.xx. I'll keep looking, the next one I'm looking at is a closeout 09 Radar Theory. Seems to be perfect for the speed and level I'm skiing at now (aggressive open water).

Thanks for the input.

You may want to give Wileys, on line a look. The same ski new $359.00 new with double Hi Raps Give them a call they sometimes have blems at even better prices.

You won't find better people to deal with.

Plus1.gif I have picked up a few things from Darren and when I was a kid my dad took me there and we got stuff from his old man! My board and ski are both blems from Wileys, although you will need to look close to see why they are blems.

Pulled the trigger today on the 09 Radar Theory with 2007 HO dual boot Venom's. Never skied with double boots, but looking forward to the new ride.

Thanks everyone for all the info.

Once you adjust to the double boots you'll wonder how you ever skied in anything else. The Theory is an outstanding performance wide ride ski, you'll like it! Thumbup.gif

Double boots are the way to go, but remember many world records have been set before w/ just a RTP.....

Count me in the RTP group.

World records? Don't be looking to me for that.

I just got a double booted ski and it seems to be a little harder to get up on. Maybe I'm just not used to it yet....I doubt I'll ever get close to the world records.
