Prop Re-building

Recommended Posts

I believe I hit a rock in the river and damaged the prop this afternoon. Two of the four blades of the Acme 381 Nibral prop are bent 90 degrees, about 1/4 of an inch down and an inch or so across. Idled straight to the landing with little vibration. Anyone have any idea what type of damage can and can't be rebuilt on Acme nibral props? Any info would be appriciated. Thanks.

Based on what the damage you described I would say you betcha. Much cheaper than a new one.

Definitely repairable. Sure there's plenty of shops around MN. I've sent mine to Delta Propeller in Cleves, Ohio; flat rate around $100.00

You should definitely be able to get a repair done. I banged up my prop pretty bad last year...folded over on 3 out of the 4 blades, a couple extra dings. It wasn't good. A local guy here in UT fixed it up for only $80 and is not serving as a spare prop. A LOT cheaper than a new one. We put it on to test how true it was after the re-build and it's smooth as new.

It's pretty amazing what a reputable shop can do with a pretzeled prop. Repaired, balanced and polished, they look almost too good to put under the boat...
