2004 VLX RUNNING ROUGH

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 VLX w/ 5.7L engine that is bogging down. It starts and idles great but while running it sputters and sounds like the motor is missing. I can give it more throttle and sometimes it will smooth out. We were out wakesurfing last night and the motor did this more often than not. I had the throtle all the way pegged and it would not plane, I went back to neutral and the next time no problem. I have never drained the fuel tank and fill up before every trip (usually about 10-12 gal.) Could it be that the fuel is bad and or I have water in the tank? I noticed that my vent line is just about in the water when wakesurfing.

Do I have a fuel water serperator? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!!!

Start with the simple things. Replace your fuel filter and clean the inlet screen on the fuel pump.

Do you know if this is an inline filter and where they are located? I just bought the Indmar shop manual today, hope it helps.

Thanks

Have you done a "tune up " lately? plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter, clean air cleaner, Impeler... A 2004 should probably be on the second set of plugs and rotor ?

Tune it up!! New fuel filter (inline under the rear center cushion), Clean the screen on the fuel pump, plugs, cap, and rotor. Mine was having the same issues and I did a tune up and now she runs like a champ! Thumbup.gif
