Gas Guage

Recommended Posts

No reading on my gas guage, not even a flicker...

2001 wakesetter ,

Sending unit in the tank seems to be in good shape, isther a way to test it without going and buying a new one?

I recently changed some of the ACC switches on the dash to power my auto ballast , but that was a simple plug and play type change.

Umm, loose wire under the dash from incidental contact?

Could be,.... gauge can be tested very easily though. First make sure you have "gnd" and "+12" volts on the appropriate terminals on back of gauge. Then, go to Radio Shack and get a 50 ohm resistor and a ~100 ohm resistor. Connect a jumper wire to the +12 volt terminal on the gauge. Then attach the 50 ohm to the other end of the jumper. Now touch the other lead of the resistor to the "S" terminal and note the reading on the gauge. It should move. Now do the same with the ~100 ohm resistor. It should again move but to a different reading. I'm not sure but I think the lower resistance = higher reading on gas gauge.

For the 01, it should have the MDC-1600 under the dash that gets all the signals from the various sensors & feeds it out to the gauges through a digital set of wires.

The gas sender wire should be pink. You can test resistance across the terminals on the top of the gas sender - should be between 33 & 240 ohms IIRC.

It is possible that you knocked a wire to the MDC loose when you swapped out the switches - they're all right behind the switches.
