peeling windshield frame fix

I had written a post about my frustration with the peeling paint on the top of my windshield frame. I was experimenting last week and made a interesting discovery. I applied industrial grade electrical tape around the top of the frame. Two strips applied together longways covers it exactly. I went with 4 inch strips to make it manageable.

For some reason it bonds to the frame very well and looks like a brand new gloss black finish with a bit of a rubbery feel. It held up to Labor day weekend with countless hands and arms on it. Getting the frame re-finished is going to be several hundred so I'll see how it holds up the rest of the season and make my decision then.

Total cost: 89 cents.

Getting the CFO off my back about the peeling windshield: Priceless

I'll post a picture soon.

Ours is peeling too. It has been ever since we got the boat. I am just wondering why not just spray paint it and save yourself a bunch of time and money by not taking it off and getting it re-painted?

several have tried self-spray painting including the self-etching sort and bottom line has been that is doesn't last worth a flip...powdercoating is apparently the only suitable and long lasting fix.

take some acetone and super fine steel wool and take all the paint off, then buff it with Mother's it will look look a newer style boat.

Go to gallerys (2005 Memorial day bash) then go to (page 2) the pic titled "chillin" there is a pic of my boat/windshield and two boats down is Mike00lxi we both took the paint off completely.
