So we took the bu out for a day on the sac river. Ten minutes into the trip (thank god this did not happen while I was parking) I slowed down for some big rollers and went to accelerate and then it was just all engine and no go. My first thought was that the prop just spun off. I did not hear or feel anything out of the ordinary. I immediately put down the anchor (we were in a pretty good current), and put on the goggles to inspect. Everything was in place underneath. I tried again-- nothing! No grinding, no engaging, no sound except the engine. Meanwhile my anchor was skipping along the bottom and we were drifting toward the I-5 overpass column impacted with all sorts lovely snags and branches. To make matters worse there is a wakeboarder in the water that had drifted ten feet off our bow and her boat was being piloted by an all early twenty something crew that was clearly feeling no pain. So I'm tearing through the boat looking for the oar to avoid the impact of the overpass, and this guy comes in to get his rider. At this point my wife is telling them we can't move. It wasn't the best decision he has ever made. He accelerates too much on his turn around and is headed for on a collision course so I bounce to the bow with arms, body and wife fully extended to catch his boat. That was the only reason there was no impact. So he gets his rider and moves on. At this point I have my friend on the swimstep oar in hand ready for action about ten feet away. So I pull anchor and we are able to direct safely around the column. About five minutes later a Yolo county sheriff patrol came along and towed us back to Discovery launch. We took a big roller over the bow on the tow back, but hey they got us back. Quite a little summer adventure. All with three girls under three who thought it was so cool we were getting towed by the boat with all the flashing lights.

This brings me to the the questions at hand. We have the regular factory 3 year warranty on our 06 V-ride. We took delivery of the boat in June of 06. Do you guys think I've got a chance of Malibu fixing this under warranty? Does anyone know what this could be? All scheduled maintenance has been done. I have never had one problem with this boat. There is only 83 hours on this boat. I'm going to call tomorrow to get the ball rolling. Any advice on how to proceed? Thanks, Matt

First of all glad it turned out safely for all of you. Too bad the boat you came close to didn't help you.

I'd say it's possible that Malibu or the dealer will fix it ... kind of hard to tell and depends on what the pb is.

When you engage the engine and give it gas does the engine rev (I think so from your story)? I had the throttle cable come off at the engine. Check the bolts around your tranny and all fluid levels. Let us know what it is.

My friend just bent a rod one month out of warranty and I was wondering the same thing. They think that his brother backed it in too fast and forced water into the engine. I did not think this was very likely. Do you all think Malibu would warranty a bent rod?

If it's out of warranty I highly doubt it.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll let you guys know what happens. I'm hoping it is something simple like the shift cable.
