my family has never surfed before and were going to try when we go to smith mountain lake with my uncle. he has a boat in CA. our boat can throw up a pretty big wake with the wedge down. i wanted to know if I should add any other ballast. I have the mls center tank, can I use the piggy back system off this tank? I'll take any advice.

Minimum:

Stock center ballast full, 750# Sac - Surf Side locker, crew (5 people min) - Surf side of boat, Wedge full down. Speed just fast enough to remove wash from behind the boat (about 9.4-10.4)

For deepwater starts: start off "no wake" slow when the rope is tight ease the speed up until board come flat on the riders feet....then just increase the speed up 3-4 MPH and the rider should come right up. AKA...don't "hit the gas"

make sure to fill the gas tank up = extra ballast

this is what is possible behind a 247. you can achieve a similar wave with your boat. however you must be willing to put 3 750 pound sacs in your boat. one in the surf side locker, one on the seat in front of that locker and one on the floor next to the seat on the surf side. ride the boat with and with out the wedge. 10.6 to 13.6 mph are all surfable speeds. most people will not put this amount of weight in their boat and therefore never reach the real capability of their boat. i had a 23 and this was our recipe.
