99 Sunsetter Tower Ideas

Ok after much research I decided on a Titan 2 tower, which I ordered and payed for 3 months ago. I'll spare you, and Titan, the details, but it isn't done and it's time to move on to a different tower manufacturer. Any suggestions? I want something that is quiet, looks good on a 99 sunsetter, and doesn't seem to have issues with spider cracking. Thanks in advance.

If you are thinking of buying something from Titan and want the details, pm me.

Anyone have any experience with Boss lately? I'd be sorely tempted to go with their Swoop. Great looks with heim joints at the hull.

Not lately, but this one is a Boss. 8 years old? Tower is tight, never a problem. I fold it down each time I go under the lift. Obviously not the swoop, Boss built this one well.

Looking at your interior I think we have identical boats. I've been looking at the Aerial Airborne. Haven't read too many reviews but the price on ebay is pretty good. There is someone with a 95/6 Sunsetter that just installed one. More than what tower, I'm torn between black or polished.

I just installed an Airborne on my '95. After making some "design" changes at home, I do like the tower for the most part. I have the polished one on mine. The only issue I ran into, and Aerial was of no help, is that the rear leg hinge point is on an incorrect angle when you try to fold it down. I never got past the sales guy to the design people to discuss the issue I was having. Anyway, once I made the correction on the new set of rear legs they sent me, it work perfectly.

I see that there are issues with Titan now. Is anyone an honest, want to please the customer, hard working business any more?

If you continue to lean toward the Aerial, I can explain what I had to do to my rear legs to correct the folding issue. I spent maybe an hour or two setting it up and about 10 min or so to make the adjustments.

I can say that the tower is solid and quiet. I have a 4-6X9 speaker box hanging on it and it is still solid and will barely move, even on choppy water. I haven't posted any pick yet but will soon. I may be able to take some this weekend. I do have one just after the install.

That is a good looking tower Mike. Titan has had some good designs over the years. And I suspect they have been going thru some tough times lately. I'm not privy to the inside story, but it sounds like they were bought out by Malibu directly. And Metcraft, going thru similar hard times, was left to sink or swim, possibly because of their lack of loyalty to Malibu.... again, all speculation on my part.

I'd like to think that when things have settled down, we will see Titan service back up to the high level we've known in the past. Maybe someone close to either company can suggest that they make a statement of some kind. Silence never seems to go well on the internet.

I'm hesitant to post anything that I've because I don't want to feed the rumor mill with unsubstantiated information. Regardless of the actual details, it can easily be surmised that Titan is in the middle of a big-time reorganization period & that isn't usually a good time to try & order anything from a company going through it. Just something to keep in mind. I do hope that they can make it through, as it would be a gigantic loss to the industry if they don't.

Thanks for the tower ideas. Yes that Titan III looks nice. My wife, who is a sucker for a sob story, has talked me in to giving Titan a couple more weeks. Once we finish our vacation, we won't be able to use the boat for two weeks, so I guess it doesn't really hurt anything at this point. I'll let you know how it goes.

I echo Wakegirl's comment. I hope they survive the reorganization. All my experiences with their products have, until now, been extremely positive.

Ok, to heck with Titan for good this time. Does anyone happen to have a picture of that Boss Swoop on a Bu? I think Wakegirl might have talked me into that one.

It's really similar to the old ECI Swoop, the big difference though is in the mounting feet. They use heim joints which is preferred, vs. the solid feet that the ECI used. Very similar look though. Here's our '04 with the ECI, it'll look really similar since your boat has the same hull lines & windshield:

I think that if I were you I'd contact them for pricing & ask them for some customer pics at the same time.

Another option would be Proflight, I almost forgot about them. There are a lot of pics on their site, so that will give you some idea. Their swoop has more "swoop" to it though, so pay attention to that.

Here's a thread with a couple of pics:

It's a really long story, but here she is. Polished, Titan II, pre-wired. I haven't put the board racks or the speakers on yet. The red sweatshirt, however, gives you an idea of the lovely weather we've had the last couple days.

Oh, faceplant. I have no idea. Looks like maybe Jason--Skicrave?--isn't, but have no idea about the other guy.

Sorry for what sounds like a real pain to get this worked out, but that sure looks sweet on your boat. Glad it finally worked out for you.
