steering

Recommended Posts

yesterday me and a few buddies went out on Lake Conroe to relax. That after noon a storm came through so we went to Wolfies to eat dinner. I went and put the boat in storage about 8 and my buddy calls me up and says he wants to make one last ski run because the water was calm after the storm. So i hook back up real quick and off we go. we get a few runs in before dark and we tried to get our other buddy with no success but he insisted he try one more time. Of course he didnt get up so i cut the wheel to pick him up and the steering wheel hangs up for a second and then it gets really hard to turn. it finally freed up but it was to free and we could only go in circles. Being that it was dark by this time i wasnt able to see what was casing the problem. i did notice that the steering cable was coming up out from underneath the dash. Does this sound like a broken cable or is there something else causing this?

I have a 95 sunsetter and figure it is about time to replace anyways. i dont know anything about steering cables or about the steering on these things since i have never had a steering problem on anything except for when the tie rod broke on the tractor while i was mowing hay and the wheels went different ways.

What kind of cable and how long does it need to be? Can I or should i upgrade the whole steering system? From what i can tell is that i can get the whole steering system for just a little bit more than just the cable.

any info greatly appreciated

thanks joeyd

Do a search here on Malibu Crew. There are a couple of really good threads that will help you make this changeout go a lot smoother.
