protection for the malibu

I just bought my first malibu about 2 months ago and love it. So far there is nothing I would change to be honest and this is my 4th boat.

Malibu did it up right !

But I want to see if there is any demand for a product I manufacture. I'm not trying to sell anything here, just wondering if this would be of interest to malibu owners.

Its a clear protection film made by 3M and I noticed some areas on my boat that needed it.

1) the rear hatch area is leaving marks where the seal is in the very back.

2) alternative to a transom pad

3) keel guard

4) any area where people may scratch the gel coat (jumping in with sandy feet)

5) any area on the tower or around it.

Right away I made a design for the rear hatch area because the boat is new but already leaving marks there. It applies a little like window tint but is completely clear and virtually invisible. Much stronger than tint and thicker. We normally put it on car bumpers, hoods, lights, etc. Its sold for phones now too (among other things).

All pieces are designed digitally and cut using a plotter so there is no trimming or cutting by the end user.

So I have the capability to create precut designs for certain areas of the boat and the owner just uses soap/water and a squeegee to apply it. 100% protects the boat.

It can be peeled off without any damage to the gelcoat but once peeled off its ruined. The film is meant to stay on.

I saw people are getting these thick transom pads that tie on but then you're taking away from the look of the boat. This is one of a few areas I would design.

this is a picture of the film being removed after a car rubbed against a wall or something.

I already bought the 3M film for the hatch area and the transom. The stuff is crazy expensive, even in bulk rolls. If you had a kit available, I definitely would have bought it and saved myself some cutting time.

I've had the thick 3M film on the rear of one of my boats. Looked great until I had the tip of a surfboard go right through it & gouge the gel underneath. It doesn't protect that well. Similar hits on the transom pad saved the gel, just like it was supposed to. Just FYI.

Well I wouldnt expect it to but im thinking like ok you get swirls on your boat when you are cleaning. its gona happen regardless . and then you got the sand issues like he said. Im very particular on my boat when i want to be and Ive buffed it out and im do to do it again probably after I get back from the river this coming weak cuz i know its gona have water spots all over and i gota clean that all off and then buff it out. and then your gona have ruber marks from bumpers. so im not sure on the price but we charge at the marina basicly $23 a foot to detail a boat in and out. so if you can peal waterspots away and rub marks thats freaken awesome in my eyes lol. and its gona protect sand scratches. it might be a 94 but my boat looks brand new other then 2 thin scratches on one side that i did not do but its barely noticable. i can only see it cuz i know where it is. and its a black boat with white wax lol. but i can remove the wax. Im just looking outside the box if someone isnt a do it your selfer kind of guy and doesnt wash his boat a lot and or wants tha protection from sand and isnt careless on docking and all that its perfect. I detal boats out a lot. I know a lot of people dont want to take the time to clean a boat and theyed rather hire it done. so this would work for your mid summer clean and you just peal away the water sports lol.

I have a 2007 23 LSV and I need the film for the back hatch in a major way! Let me know what you need from me to get one!

I already have marks that are close to an 1/8 inch deep...... HELP!

Yea, I see your point. The film is strong but not bullet proof so something could get thru it if sharp or hard enough.

This is why I was asking about this. I am putting the film all over my boat in areas I know will get scratched but I have the extra film to do it.

For price, it wouldn't be any more than a transom pad and the rear hatch area about the same. The main difference here is you don't see this film and nobody can steal it. You retain the look of the boat but still protect it.

I was considering putting it on the trailer also (like the fenders) since I can see some wear there already.

I gave some thick film to a buddy on he put it on the bottom of his boat. A few months later he went too shallow and hit some rocks. It tore the film up but the gelcoat was saved and he's a believer now after that incident.

We've been looking for a way to fix this issue for months now.....

Make sure and give me the Bu Crew deal...

This is what I did to fix my issue. Problem with the clear film is that you still see the issue once it's covered up.

I couldn't care less what it looks like, I was more worried about it wearing all the way through.....

Wish I would have found that thread or asked the question sooner......

My issue was two fold, I almost busted my a** stepping back there when the hatch was open while draining bags one time. With the rubbing issue ontop of that this fix eliminated all of the issues for me.

When you going to make it to the warm side of the state? We're headed to Crescent Bar for Labor Day, you going to be anywhere near that caious....

This is why its best to put the clear film on when its new.

Your turf job looks good though. That adhesive may be tough to deal with if you ever want to remove it and it seems expensive but other than that, I like the idea.

One of these days, afraid I'd melt though. I used to go to Tri-cities all the time, Pasco. Not going to crescent bar this year, I was there last year at the sandbar the whole time. This year we're headed to Hawaii and will be there up until labor day.
