Can anyone who has this boat or skied behind one rate it's slalom wake compoard to a MC ot SN? We currnely have a 95 echelon and are looking to upgrade to something a little newer. I know the wake should be smaller with the sv23 but I would like to get some overall opinions on the boat and any known problems it might of had. The 95 has been a solid boat and still is but a slightly smaller/softer wake would be nice.

Thanks in advance

i have a 2000 response, and used to ski behind a '96 echelon until my friend sold it. depending on your skiing speeds, i don't think you will notice a HUGE difference between the two. The response does have a better wake at 32MPH, but that is my opinion. I also think that the response handles more sports car like. again, just my opinion.

One thing about his boat is it was a LOT quieter than mine. mine has mufflers (they say silent ride, but it is not the full quiet ride (or whatever it is called, with the crossover pipe). His did have it, and you could barely hear is boat as it went by, and conversations inside were much easier.

We do ski around 32-34 so that would be a positive.

My buddy, Mark has a 2000 Responce LX. It is awsum nice wake at all speeds. Much better than a S.N. I do not know about a M.C. never skiied one.

I don't notice a big difference between my echelon and the diamond response. Don't get me wrong, there is a difference. But not anything more than running a full versus half tank of gas. Meaning my echelon with a half tank and response with full tank, very similiar.

I also need to qualify that I am referring to speeds 32 - 36.

I am not being negative. Its a great boat.

Not to change subjects MA skier but, we don't have that many MA BUs on the board. Where to you ski??? Good luck with the boat choice...my brother has a Response, a 97 I believe and another friend has a 99...both have very nice wakes but not the same year as what your looking at.

We ski on Lake Quinnsigamond in Worcester 90% of the time.....a few other Malibus on the lake too.

I was hoping that the Diamond hull would have a noticable differance but I guess I will have to judge it for myself on test ski.

ma-skier,

I regularly ski behind my 98 Echelon (SV23) and my friend's 2001 Response (SV23-diamond) and honestly tell no difference at all. This is slaloming at 34-36, tricking around 19.5, longline barefooting around 40, and also wakeboarding w/wedge at 22-23. As bretski noted, a half tank/full tank makes more noticeable difference to me. And I would add, crew weight and actual prop being used will make a more noticeable difference than diamond vs. non-diamond. Wake alone would not being a deciding factor for me in the upgrade you are considering.

Now, as a comparison between a 2000 SN and 2000 MC...I would stay away from the MC from 1998-2000, but you won't find a much better slalom wake than a 2000 SN in my opinion. I believe the SV23 is better at everything else, but for a pure slalom boat from a wake standpoint the SN would be my choice. But again, is the wake that much better to upgrade over your SV23...not in my opinion. The wake itself from any boat of that vintage from Malibu, CC, or MC will not be your limiting factor in your slalom skiing.

The diamond hull wake of the Response isn’t much smaller than the Echelon; the main thing is the “softness” of the wake and therefore less need for leg compression over the boat wake. I’ve skied both hulls may times and honestly from a skiers perspective not a huge difference. The Response sitting higher out of the water on the diamond hull is well more responsive than the Echelon.

the '99 will ski exactly like the '00 he is looking at. they are basically the same boat...

I've a 03 RLX and when comparing with 00-02 year CC's we have in our club the wakes at 30-36 are virtually the same. I know the serious tournament skiers are split which they prefer but for recreational and lower level course skiing doesn't seem to be much in it.

The CC wins hands down for teaching family though. It's wakes in mid 20's are lower and way softer. The RLX wakes for kids are BIG but they do seem to cope with the mellow roundy shape quite well once they get over the height factor.
