Floating Wedge - Lock Pin Device

First, should I care or is there any damage from the floating wedge going up and down with the locking bar edges scraping up and down the bracket?

If so, what do you do to permanently squeeze the locking pins while in use... I was thinking of just using zip ties, but wasn't sure if they would fall off while in use from the water pressure... (zip tie to squeeze the pins together, another zip tie around bar and other zip tie to prevent water pressure from blowing it away)

I assume the pressure from the locking bar pushing against the bracket does not effect the way the floating wedge works?

(I've installed the wedge, but haven't gone to the lake yet, waiting to fix my damper plate) So just asking in the meantime before I head out. Thanks.

Zip ties sounds like what I would do. Or, remove the spring loaded pins and just find a different way to hold the wedge in the up position?
