ski locker cover hinge broke

Recommended Posts

Well, the hinges broke somehow on both side. It was probably when my friend didn't put the ski down correctly and it was still sitting up and and stepped on the cover and broke the hinges. That's the only thing my dad and I could think of. We were trying to figure out what material it is under the upholstery and carpet, either wood or fiberglass. Most likely it is plywood.

What we are going to do instead of taking the carpet off underneath, we will make two new pieces, either in aluminum or chrome, and put it on the carpet and screw it in. We made a trace from cardboard. You can see the cardboard piece compared to the original little aluminum black piece.

Here are the pics.

the cover is a corrugated aluminum sheet.

pretty pricey stuff given the size.

the hinges attach to a VERY small plastic piece (wag 1" x 1" x ??) near the edge.

not a very sturdy structure.

when mine went i machined a larger piece of stainless steel to spread the forces over a wider area.

iirc the plastic piece may quite a spell across the narrow edge of the cover.

good luck w it.
