90 mystere trans whine in reverse

Recommended Posts

I just bought a mystere euro f3 and it is my first inboard boat, and when I put the boat in reverse it makes a whining noise. Is this normal or not, it seems like everything is working correctly. The whine isn't real loud and it doesn't sound like metal on metal or anything, it just made me wonder if it is normal.

My Echelon does that too, a small whine is normal. Like going in reverse with a stick shift.

Sounds like normal operation, as long as there is no abnormal clunking noise. The gears are actually cut to be quiet when in forward gear. That cut also makes them more noisy when going into reverse. Same as a typical car transmission.
