Attaching a BF boom to a Sportster

My sons bought a BFI boom for the Sporty. If mounted easily and they've been using it everyday. The carabine is very close to the gel where it attaches to the bow eye. We've put some rubber hose on it for protection, but it still looks like it could harm the gel under the right circumstances. Does anybody have a solution for this?

did your BI come with a pad on the cables? I find that the pad keeps the carbiner away from the hull (it should have 2 velcro straps that you loop back through the caribiner). If that doesn't work, DUCK IT. I put heavy amounts of duck tape on the clips i use to hook the boat to the dock as it floats on my lift. keeps the hull from getting those scuffs.

Tape's a great idea. I don't know why we didn't think of that. The pad doesn't cover the cabiner. We'll try taping the thing all up.

the tape should work. but also look at trying to pull the pad down farther onto the caribiner. i have mine really snug, and it pretty much pulls the pad around the end of the caribiner.

I do have one friend that dipped the caribiner in the do-it-yourself vinyl coating material. I questioned the need for it, but it turned out great and has worked fine for the last few years. All of my other friends with BI booms did nothing, and nobody has had any problems with scuffing.

I just use a piece of rubber with a slice it in - slide the bow eye through the slice and clip the carabiner on after. I happen to have an old front toe rubber from a ski binding that works great.

I put the clip through the eye and the bow line that loops though...so there is rope on either side of the clip so it is almost physically

impossible to have the clip hit gel coat. However...the rubber idea off an old inner-tube would be a great idea!!!
