Changing The Raw Water Pump On the Water

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Has anyone changed the raw water pump while the boat was still in the water? I have a 98 Sunsetter 325 HP. Any issues?

Basil

If incoming water is an issue while trying to connect hoses, slide under the boat and put a piece of plastic trash bag over the intake screen, the water pressure will keep it there while you work, but don't forget to remove it, of course!

I have never done it but it seems like it should work.

I've done it. Cork stopper.

These are good to have on the boat anyway - if you get a hole (like another thread currently running where the owner sheered his tracking fin off, leaving a hole in the bottom of the boat) in your boat, you can plug it from the inside.

Crate and Barrel has a great selection of corks for all kinds of decanters, wine bottles and such. It costs about $10 to get a nice selection to have in the emergency kit.

And...when you take the raw water hose off the seawater pump, you can just thump in one of the corks and not worry.

You should install a seacock valve to shut intake water. If you ever have a hose failure it would help save the day.

Good advice.
