Stuck in Neutral

Recommended Posts

Boat was running fine all morning, then all of a sudden, I could not engage Forward or Reverse. The engine revs when throttling in both directions, but the tranny won't engage.

I followed the cable to the transmission, and it is still connected and moving with the throttle.

I tried to pull the neutral knob in and out, but nothing. (Also, I don't know how the neutral knob works mechanically or electrically, I pulled out the throttle/shift lever from the drivers wall, btu don't know what to look for)

Worse case scenario would be the gears got grinded up? But there was no smell or anything to assume that. Several day trips before this, there was a wierd noise coming from the transmission, like a whirring noise as if something wasn't perfectly engaged...

btw, i have an 05 VLX. Thanks for any advice...

check your driveshaft bolts, where it connects to the v-drive, if they are still there and tight, next use a mirror to watch the driveshaft coupler to see if that turns, if still no luck, you mat have sheared the flexplate or have transmission damage
