noise on direct drive in hard turn

Recommended Posts

I hit a submerged log and tore the first skeg off. I replaced it and did not see any other damage to prop / shaft or fiberglass anywhere...i think the sacrificed skeg did its job. However, in the couple of times that i have been back out i have noticed in a hard turn under load that there is a almost cavaitation noise that a outboard motor would make when it sucks air on a hard turn... slight vibration but has a growl/cavitate noise?? any ideas as all does fine while not turning hard? Again shaft, bearing and prop all look to be fine and in great shape?

IMO I think it's probably just what you think it is, cavatation. My RLXI will spin turn which my previous boat would not do. Only done it a few times just for grings & giggles, and I get that growl sound like maybe I'm side loading the prop too much or cavitating. Tight hard turns is when I get it. Jut one opinion but I think it's probably not anything to worry about. Other opinions?

Inboard props can cavitate and that's likely what you're hearing. It's conceivable that you got enough of a little tweak to increase the cavitation problem on your boat.
