While we were on the lake yesterday I noticed that as I was pulling my son up on the wakeboard the engine would hestitate almost like it was out of fuel. It would do it a few times then the problem would clear itself out.

I was thinking perhaps the fuel filter?

That sounds like a fuel filter to me if u pull it out and can blow through it that means it is fine. If their is a significant amount of resistance it is bad.
