Breaking a Wedge

Recommended Posts

We picked up a '98 Response last summer and it had a tweaked wedge so I removed it and we used it without. In the process of looking in to buying a new one, possibly repairing the old one, etc I came across several posts showing wedges that had snapped off on one side and was hanging by one vertical strut. Nasty looking. The common story seemed to be "Don't make fast turns." Now that I have a new wedge and we are using it frequently, my questions is, what is a "fast turn"? Wide open and crank it? 20 mph and sharp? ???? I'd much rather have someone give me a good ballpark than me find out the hard way.

Thanks for any insight.

first of all never go wide open with the wedge down even in a straight line, just keep it under 30 and you'll be fine. Does your new wedge have 3 bolts connecting each leg to the foil? If it does that is the upgraded stronger one, still not bullet proof but much stronger than the ones with 2 bolts per leg.
