Wakeskate questions

My son wants a wakeskate. He's 10 and is a competent wakeboarder. I have been looking around and have found a few on sale and was wondering if they were good beginner boards. The Hyperlite Scape, Liquid Force Faction and LF Anthem. I also have no idea what size to get him. Any help would be greatly appreciated we have a boating vacationplanned for the end of the month and would like to have one for him to try out that week.

you are going to want the smallest board. anything made by a wakeboard company is going to way to big for him. you should get him the New Wakeskates Mini. Its 36" and you can give New any image and they can make it a graphic for no extra cost.

We bought a Liquid Force "Faction 40" 2 years ago. It was the cheapest of the soft rubber top versions out there at the time.

We rode it probably 20 times. Never hit any rails, and it began to delaminate on us. It also developed stress cracks along the bottom side of it.

I think we spent around $200 for it.

Same thing for the scape. The reason that they are cheap is that they are cheaply made. They may be great for begining, but eventually you will want something better.

scapes are way too big. 107cm (their smallest size) is over 42". there is no reason someone should need a board over 42"

even 40" is big for kids. if you go on wakeskate websites even guys 180lbs+ are on boards smaller then 40"

that New wakeskate is $100 for the right size board and a custom graphic

Do you have a link for them?

IMO its better to fork out a few more dollars and get a compression molded board. it will last much better and if he wants to get half decent at it, it will allow him to progress further. This is because they have much more energy and pop to them IMO. Also as most of them have channels, rails etc etc underneath they track better and are just as good for beginners if not better.

Look for something like the hyperlite catalyst 2.0, you could probably get pretty cheap. A single deck board that looks fairly simple. Many of the 'fancier' boards and dual decks are very heavy and much more difficult to manage, especially for kids. While the catalyst in this size may be a bit long the narrower width of it makes it feel like a shorter board.

Finding a 'proper' sized board for him may be difficult. something about 105cm may be as small as you can find in a fiberglass board.
