NYT article about intense exercise

I am totally out of breath after 4 consecutive passes through the course.

I used to be a runner and ran 4-5 races per year and this was not as big a problem then.

But now I just spin and ride my bike at a considerably lower heart rate.

Further if I take a really bad spill on the 3rd or 4th pass anxiety sets in occassionally because I am absolutely gasping for air in the water in an unusual attitude.

I'm pretty sure that it's good for me if it doesn't drown me first. Biggrin.gif

Interesting- seems to suggest that short, intense bursts of exercise give as much benefit as much more prolonged sessions. The key, the article mentions, is exercising so hard you're outside your comfort zone for a few minutes.

Sounds just like a good hard slalom set to me... Rockon.gif

Been trying to tell my gym rat wakeboarder son that for years... :)

The medical term for that is "dyspnea" - the acute, psychologically uncomfortable sensation that occurs when you don't have enough oxygen. It's a weird feeling. Happens to me after really hard sets.
