VLX WAKE HELP

I just finished taking out my rear stock tanks and plumbed in a 750 in each locker. We went out on lake to try out and could not dial in the surf wake. I had stock bow ballast full, rear surfside 750 full and still needed the rope to stay in the pocket. I then filled 1200 bow sac about 1/2 full and it made things worse.

My boat is a 2003 Wakesetter VLX w/o the wedge. I would appreciate any advice.....BTW the wakeboard wake is sick.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

I have a 2006 Vride )same hulll) but I do have the wedge. I have 440 surfside plus 370 surfside under seats and the center ballast full 500 lbs. + wedge and run about 10.4 MPH. I have not had any success with using bow ballast. I am thinking about going with the 750s in the rear.

I have a liquid force custom surfboard that I can go without the rope without too much trouble. I recently tried a Blue Inland Surfer and could surf much further back and easier - I really like that board.

How fast are you going and what board do you have?

I had a 2005 vRide until this season which I believe is the same hull as your vlx. I did the very same mod and pulled out the hard tanks and replaced them with 750's. The vRide did not have any bow ballast so I put a 400 lb sac up there. We also filled up the 500 lb mid tank, the 750 lb bag in the surf side locker and another 400 on the surfside seats. This combination with the wedge worked pretty well and made for a pretty fun wave. I know you said that you didn't have a wedge, but you also didn't say anything about any weight beyond the 750 in the rear and the stock plus additional bow ballast. I feel with what you had on board, an average skilled rider should be able to surf ropeless.

Note that I (200lbs on a Phase 5 Oogle) was able to surf ropeless with just the stock ballast (500 mid and 200 rear), the wedge and 3 adults and driving the boat at 10.5 mph. It took some work but it's certainly doable.

Post some more specifics about boat speed, rider weight/skill/experience, board and any additional ballast (people, mid) that you may or may not have had and I think we can help you out. Regarding the boat speed, if you can check it with a GPS that gives us some common ground to work with.

probably need more weight in the back. If you took out the factory 200lb. then you probably need to add a 400lb on the rear seat. The other thing to try is to go 9.5mph. I am 240lb and I can't go ropeless over 10mph.
