"Wireless" Trailer/Towing Lights

Has anyone else used wireless trailer/towing lights?

I purchased a set at Pepboy's auto parts store a couple of months ago for 149.00 and I must say they work pretty darn good on my boat trailer. I used them on my utility trailer last week and to pull a car behind my RV last month. You can strap them on or use the magnetic mounts on the bottoms. All you have to do is plug the transmitter into your towing vehicles trailer wiring plug and then mount the lights on your trailer or car. The transmitter then sends the brake - turn signals and running lights information to the wireless tow lights. Total hook up time for me was less then 1 minute. I will let you know in a couple of months how they are working out.

Let me know if anyone else has a set of these..

P.S. I also found these same lights on the JCWhitney.com and WirelessTowLights.com web sites for those of you who do not have a Pepboys close.

Hi LS-One

Each tow lights takes 4 AA batteries. If you use lithiums you can normally get 24 hours use. If you use alkalines you can get about 8 hours use.

I got all excited for a moment there. Not very practical for regular towing. Not only do you have to change the batteries often but you probably have to worry about the lights getting stolen.

That and I doubt they will operate the reverse solonoid for the brakes. I just don't see the usefulness for the trailers under our boats (unless you are so anal that a spare trailer lighting system seems like something you just must have in your trunk).

OP, what happened to the lights that came on your trailer that you are using these now?

When we do an overnight drive to Lake Powell its seventeen hours, mostly dark. What a pain to stop and change batteries. Especially if the Highway Patrol stops you for no tailights.

I think the concept is great for maybe a tow truck service Whistling.gif

LS-One,

In my opinion, the nice thing about these are, its always nice to have a back up set of lights. I don't know about you guys, but it always seems to happen to me (no lights) at the worst time. I guess too thats why I carry a fire exstinguisher.. just in case..

I won't argue with having them for a backup set if you want to spend your money that way. Do they come with running lights as well ?

Amen on the fire extinguisher but, unless you have them serviced yearly (as recommened by most State Fire Marshall's), it can be a false sense of security.

Hello LS-One,

Yes, you are absolutely right on the fire exstinguishers and getting them tested. The lights do have running lights and all you have to do is pull your headlights on and they come on automatically, but to turn the running lights off you have to do that manually by pushing the on/off button on the light. When you are done with the lights you have to turn them off with the button on the light.
