Floating Wedge on 2005 Wakesetter VLX

Recommended Posts

Hi this is my 2nd post / question on this topic. Wakegirl (among others provided some great info)

Now my next issue...

One Malibu dealer tells me I can install Floating Wedge myself and ALL the screws / holes will line up with the new required brackets and bolts to the transom.

I'm being told by another dealer that Malibu (factory) says that existing bolts will NOT match up and new holes will need to be drilled.

Question: Is there two different models of the Floating Wedge? One that fits earleir model bolts and another that doesn't?

There is also a dealer on eBay (seems legitimate, with positive ratings) and they indicate that the holes / bolts will NOT match up and will require new holes to be drilled in transom. Is this correct?

I'm ok with paying extra for the floating wedge, but ONLY if I don't have to drill new holes in the transom...

anyone out there have a definative answer for me???

Many thanks for the advice

From personal experience. I have installed the floating wedge onto a 2005 Malibu VLX and the hole pattern was the same. Bolted right up. I ordered the wedge from Skicrave when he worked for Extreme WakeSports in 2008. It made a huge difference in the wake. Best upgrade on the 05 IMO.

I actually just ordered a Floating Wedge and Bracket set from Ebay (use the bing.com 8% off, that should pay for shipping)

This is for my 05 VLX, I will let you know if it fits. Should be coming in next week.

Update:

I ordered the Floating Wedge and Bracket from Ebay for my 2005 Malibu VLX... his disclaimer on the page says that "it may not fit older models Malibu without modification", but I just swapped it on fine, exact fit to the older bolt pattern.

One of the holes, or bolts, had a messed up thread, and was a beeotch to put the nut on, so double check the bolt, nut, threads just in case.

I'd like to hear how you like the floater compared to the bent wedge. I'm thinking about looking for a floater because I'm not that happy with the performance of the bent wedge. Gimme a PM after you've gone to Anderson to test it out. :)

Can I ask where you ordered from? A quick search on Ebay turns up nothing.

This seller always seems to have all sorts of wedge parts for sale. Even if they don't have one listed right now, you could contact them.

My buddy took it out and says wakeboarding and surfing is definately improved. I cannot explain the details until I've experienced it for myself, will have some free time next month.

BTW, Pete is correct, the seller on ebay is boatguy49036 . Bing.com is now 10% cash back for Buy It Now. Only works if the seller posts on ebay, rather than trying to call him, so if he has stock, ask him to post back up.
